Valley Roots was started in a small town called Chualar in the Salinas Valley. The original band members were Efrain Flores (Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vocals), Butch Manriquez ( Bass Guitar), Joe Avila (Lead Guitar), and Phil Cumiskey (Drums).
